No Simple Disruption Podcast hosts an evening of powerful poetry & positive change-making, Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Join us for an evening of powerful poetry and music in the spirit of collaboration and positive change-making. Special guests John Medeski & Friends, Oteil Burbridge, Vernon Reid, Brian Jackson, DJ Logic, Jeff Sipe, and Maggie Rose. The event takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Salvage Station (indoor stage), and benefits No Simple Disruption Podcast.

Doors at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m. 18 and older only. $20.

Opening acts will include young musicians collaborating with young poets to bring their original, thought-provoking, world-changing lyrics center stage. This collaboration is the beginning of a deep relationship with the creative youth of Asheville and the plethora of talented mentors with ties to the Asheville community.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

JOHN MEDESKI

Keyboardist John Medeski cannot be contained to a single project or genre. Best known as one third of the groundbreaking trio, Medeski Martin & Wood, he is credited on over 300 works to date. Medeski is a highly sought after improviser, producer, composer and band leader whose projects include Mad Skillet, The Word, Hudson and Spectrum Road. He has worked with John Zorn, Phil Lesh, Don Was, John Scofield, Coheed & Cambria, Susana Baca, Sean Lennon, Marc Ribot, Irma Thomas, Blind Boys of Alabama, David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jack Bruce and many more. 

OTEIL BURBRIDGE

Grammy winner Oteil Burbridge is known for his work with the Aquarium Rescue Unit featuring Col. Bruce Hampton, Dead & Company, and his own project, Oteil & Friends. In 2012, Oteil received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for his 15-year contribution to the Allman Brothers Band as the longest running bassist in the band’s history.

VERNON REID

Vernon Reid was born in London and raised in New York City. He’s the founder and primary songwriter of the two-time Grammy winning band Living Colour, which formed in New York in 1984. Reid was named No. 66 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. In 2017 Vernon launched the podcast “An Underground Railroad of the Mind,” where he spins records from his vinyl collection. Reid is cofounder of the Black Rock Coalition, an organization supporting Black alternative music.

BRIAN JACKSON

Half of the power duo Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson, Brian wrote, arranged, and produced more than 10 albums over an eight-year period. Almost 40 years later, he’s still building with artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder, Common, Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, vocalist Gregory Porter, Christopher “Puma” Smith, jazz violinist Scott Tixier, and legendary bassist Charnett Moffett.

DJ LOGIC

An accomplished turntablist, DJ Logic is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip–hop realms and is a highly-respected session musician and an innovative bandleader. Since his emergence in the early ’90s in the Bronx hip-hop scene, DJ Logic has been amassing collaborations, including a full-fledged band with members of Blues Traveler, a trio with Steve Molitz and Freekbass, and a jazz project with Georgian prodigy Beka Gochiasvili.

JEFF SIPE

Jeff Sipe is one of the most prolific and creative drummers around. Jeff has buoyed the performances of many of today’s leading bands and stars such as the Aquarium Rescue Unit, Jeff Coffin, Susan Tedeschi, Oteil Burbridge, Jazz is Dead, and Hellborg/Lane.

MAGGIE ROSE

Maggie Rose is an American soul and country music singer. At age 16 she began performing frequently with Bruce Springsteen tribute band The B Street Band. Her debut album Cut to Impress was released in 2013. She was featured on a Dallas Davidson track with Big Boi, she’s performed at Bonnaroo, the Best of CMA fest, and the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France. Maggie Rose’s 2021 album Have a Seat marks her transition from Country to Soul and R&B.
